Blog EntryOct 22, '10 10:49 AM
for everyone
I’m so guilty that the updates on this blog have been so few and far between but I’ve been keeping a low profile you see, hehe

But there is some truth in that ya know, coz I haven’t been using Facebook as much. Mainly coz I hate getting all the juvenile facebook game invites/updates. I know I can change the setting but that’s just too much effort and I really couldn’t be bothered so I thought I’d just use twitter instead.

Yes, twitter is my new addiction. Short, instantaneous blogging, random blabbers limited to just 140 letters, so not so hard to tolerate.

Anyway, I’m pretty sure that a lot of you are not following my tweets but I kinda wish you all do, so I won’t have to explain in super long gory details, what amazingly cool stuff I’ve been doing these past months (I make myself believe that of course) before I reach that milestone age that is *Tantsaran!!!* 30.

So let’s do a quick recap: I kicked started this year by finally moving out of my parents house and into my shoebox apartment, enjoyed the long summer days with friends, in the beach, pool parties, music festivals and road trips, flamenco dance classes. Got a bit more serious in life coz I got the job I wanted (which meant abandoning my plan to move to London). Car accident(s), nothing major. Thank God.  Then I did some work travels to Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore, which was fun, exciting and tiring at the same time.  Downside is, I always came home super broke haha. Meet new friends. More parties in between. Started taking up German lessons, stopped flamenco classes, tried out zumba, got my dual citizenship and decided to go back to doing martial arts again (this time as a ninja student, I’m serious). Discovered threading is the best way to shape my eyebrows. Discovered a lot of things about myself and just in time before I reach that milestone age that is *Tantsaran!!!* 30. Dejavu?

Exactly 30 days from today, I will turn 30. That means in d next 30 days or so I will have to do all the things I’ve listed on my imaginary bucket list “of things I must do before I reach 30”.

Let’s all drink to that  :-D

Hallo!!!
Sup people?!! I know I know, it’s been ages since my last post but I guess you will forgive me if I say…
I’ve been busy living life and loving it. The good, the bad, the ugly side of it. What im really trying to say is that I’ve been good and I’ve been bad and I’ve been naughty and I've been nice :-P

Anyhoo. I just got back from our teambuilding conference in Jakarta a few weeks ago, and if you’re in my facebook (shame if u r not) you probably already saw the embarrassing amount of photos I took hahaha.

I got homesick in Jakarta (coz the place reminded me so much of the Phils) and got sick in Sukambumi, West Java (coz ive been stuffing my mouth with just about anything that’s been offered to me) yep, I’m gullible like that. Hmmm the jungle is not the best place to get sick, but shit happens.

You’re in luck today coz my colleague just sent me (like a few minutes ago) some never before seen pics from the trip *lol*
And ok, I’ll include some of my faves too.

Perhaps some of you thought I've abandoned this blog?
Well u r almost right!

Because...

1. I still don't have internet connection at my new place.
It's a good thing I have my crackberry and I have internet at work, I manage to still have contact from the outside world ;-)
But obviously with crackberry and work internet I'm limited to what I can do

The thing is, I can't be bothered doing anything about it right now.

You see I had one of those mobile broadband sticks before but I've lost the stick somewhere but I still have to pay for it every month. (Yes I've complained and I'm still complaining)

2. I'm busy. Yeah yeah. I'm busy wasting my time on facebook, socializing, going on road trips, music festivals, partying and living. C'mon am holding on to my dear life coz end of this year I turn 30. OMG!

I remember turning 25 like yesterday and then waking up one day and I'm 29! FML

3. I'm adjusting to living alone. Love it by the way! But a few weeks ago, I almost burned my house down (don't ask, long story). On a happy note last last week I finally used my washing machine. I actually made the extra effort to learn how to use it! And I must enjoy using it so much, coz I've been doing my laundry twice a week now hehe.

I have to say it is one of the most brilliant things ever invented. I especially like that it's got a built in dryer coz I don't have to hang wet clothes anymore. Now I will just have to become friends with the iron. That one I doubt.

And of course I'm adjusting to my new work (loving it much too). I will be traveling to Malaysia next month and then to Indonesia in June, I haven't been to indo so I'm super excited. Then Sydney in August. Again.

I was right when I said that 2010 is gna be a rockin year for me. It's only been 4 months since it kicked in and already I've had so many things happening to me, mostly good, some bad i.e. car accident (which I survived unscathed) thank God.

yes, so many things have happened, are happening and are yet to happen

I have to remind myself to stop once in a while and breathe...

And maybe write some of em down. Like capturing memories but with words.
So guess I won't be abandoning this blog after all.

Out with the old and in with the new...

Happy new year everyone!
How's 2010 treating you so far?

I have to say, although 2009 proved to be a rather challenging year for me, the experiences paved way to lots of great opportunities, making my 2010 uber exciting.

First stop, there is that new job, and not just any job for the matter, it's my dream job--
it meant shelving my big London move but i am a firm believer of "what's meant to be, is meant to be" seems London is not meant to be, if it was, I wouldn't have landed this job.

Second, i got my first apartment. finally. i know it's been a long time coming. but as always, it was worth the wait. moving in next friday. to say that i am excited would be an understatement.

and third and fourth and fifth and sixth and beyond, i got new set of friends, new goals, new perspectives, new hopes, new dreams and new aspirations. and all looking good.

bliss.

anyway, i leave you with a quote i read from Lucy Torres' column:

May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you are wonderful. And don’t forget to make some art — write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the new year, you surprise yourself.

so it was 35 degrees last Saturday---
perfect weather to hit the beach.

and hit Scarborough beach we did
we happily wasted our saturday afternoon enjoying

the glorious sun.
the warm sands
the cool waters
and
the hot bods parade :-P

the waves were a bit bigger than normal
almost as if it was showing off to it's many spectators.
shame i was too scared to go into the waters past my knees
coz the scary waves kept pulling me back in.
not a very good sight hahaha. still fun though.

on the flip side, we found out afterwards that there was a shark sighting 100 metres from where we were swimming
(we thought those helicopters were just for show *lol*)

As i was getting in my car last friday after work, i saw a popsicle stick stuck on my

windshield wiper

taking a closer look, i realized that it had some scribbles on it

i could not read it properly so i got out of my car and pulled the thing out

after reading the notes on both sides

i blushed :-P

It's the first time i got a love note written on a popsicle stick

and i must admit, i was flattered :-P

thought it was cute -- original

well something you'd expect from a 16 yr old boy to give to his teenage crush

but this guy is i think in his early 30s hahaha!

I hope it wasn't a used popsicle stick, it looked more like it was carved?

it doesn't really matter now coz he did succeed in getting my attention

the problem is now, i feel all awkward, especially that he is a colleague.

I'm not really good at handling this kind of stuff.

I hope he didn't tell anyone of his intentions

I'd die of embarrassment. OMG.

Contrary to popular belief, I'm still alive *lol*

I know that the updates on this blog have been few and far between, but I've been so busy catching up with my social life that I haven't had the chance to pause, write/collect my thoughts and breathe :-P

Oh and sleep too.

But with all my sense and nonsensical odd-ventures, I did learn some valuable lessons in life that I thought I'd share with you (plus some of my fun party pics)

1. You can save even if you're holding a job which pays very little money, it's all about restraint.
2. Conflict can be a choice, and it's one you don't have to make if you dont want to!
3. A person who criticises a lot isn't as sure of themselves as they pretend :-)
4. Take a deep breath before plunging into a very profound and intense decision.
5. Finally, there is nothing more empowering than experience.

I love online shopping but it's very addicting. I think i'm going to freeze my credit cards. like now.

I hate great expectations. I had alligator meat the other night and it didn't taste like chicken at all.

I love how a single text message can make your day but I hate how it can break your day too.

I love master chef australia.

I loved Michael Jackson, it's so sad that we will never see him do his crotch grabbing, moonwalking, and anti-gravity lean dance moves "live" ever again.

I love love traveling...heading to Sydney in December, it's been 4 years since my last visit. looking forward.

Loving my flamenco dance class.  I just started taking lessons over a month ago, so am not that good yet but it won't take long, promise *winks*

And lastly, I love that i don't hate many things.

Lotsa love,

Geri

FOOD

I’ve been meaning to blog about one of my biggest passions in life for some time now.

What can I say? I’m a self confessed foodie!
So it would be a shame to not dedicate a whole entry about it. Mind you am no food critic and I’m no chef.
My only claim to fame is that I am guilty of loving food too much.

Like most people, I enjoy eating out with friends and family, but contrary to popular belief, I don’t always go to fancy restaurants.  Expensive doesn’t always mean good.
I really don’t mind going to “karinderya” type restaurants at all, as long as the food is delicious and the place is clean and presentable, I'm there!
I think they’re more fun to go to sometimes and you pay half the price :-)

I also enjoy cooking as much as I enjoy eating.  I love cooking gourmet foods, i get all excited when I see recipe books, but I’d usually revise the original recipe to make it more personal... I was never good at reading instructions anyway.

I use a lot of herbs and lots of greens and lots of reds when i cook.  I am loving red chillies lately, but I make sure I don't go overboard. I think my style of cooking is a fusion of Mediterranean and Asian cuisine. The latter for obvious reasons. It’s not too oily and not too healthy-it’s-so-boring either.

My favorite part, other than eating the food of course, is the presentation (I like making things look pretty). The presentation is what lures people to eat the food, but keep in mind that it's still the taste that will determine if you're a good cook or not.

You can tell I watch too many cooking shows lately.

Luckily most of my friends share my passion for food and we are always on the look out on discovering nice restaurants here in Perth.

I have an obsession with Korean food right now. Sometimes I’d dream I'm in Korea eating bolgugi hahaha.

Linda and Mindy however, are determined to convert me into liking Indian food, which I’m not a big fan of, but I remember i didn’t like chillies before either, so we never know, I might just like it this time.

If only fitting into my clothes would not be a problem long term, I’d say I’d guiltlessly indulge on a food trip or a food safari or a food festival. Healthy or sinful or weird.
They say it’s all about eating in moderation.
But striking the right balance for me means enjoying food’s glorious excess every once in a while.  Make that every weekend :-P

Maybe next time I'll share my favorite restaurants here in Perth.

Have a yummy nice day!

xoxo

Geri

Can't believe it's almost June already, New Years Eve was like, two weeks ago!

Anyway, yesterday I talked Mindy and Linda to doing a photo shoot, for laughs...
I’ve been on sort of a major Lady Gaga binge lately so we got Poker Face playing on as our background music (on repeat too) and we danced like there were no tomorrows. It was a riot.
